Abstract

Despite the loss of motivation, phraseological unity remains expressive and retains its functional and stylistic association. These units derive their meaning from a reimagining of a flexible word combination and possess absolute expressiveness, independent of the context. Even if the figurative core that originally motivated the phraseological unit fades, it still exists in connection with the given material composition. As a result, the speaker perceives the sound composition of demotivated phraseological units or idioms as a verbal complex with a fixed meaning, expressiveness, and functional and stylistic association.
